Baptism in holy water
Is not only within four blessed walls.
Sometimes we are holiness.
All teeth and laughs from the chest,
Drenched beneath a waterfall
And pushed off balance by the wind—
Baptismal water
That we rejoice in,
Praises and hallelujahs that are
Loud and unapologetic.
And then that moment of
Enlightenment. When we realize that we
Are the blessed.
No church or priests
Unless the sky is the structure
And the birds are ordained,
Their cries a call to revel,
Maybe to repent,
Our only sin that we forgot
There is no proper way to pray
Or to believe.
